Seaman’s Fish House

In a secluded cove at Bailey Island, this old fish house, perched precariously between dead spruce trees, has seen better days.In years past, commercial fishermen used small buildings such as this one to build, repair, and store fishing gear.

In modern times, many Maine commercial fishermen can no longer afford to own property that gives them direct access to the sea. Property that had historically not been desirable by local residents is now much sought after by people willing to pay handsome prices.
