Nubble Fish House, SE view

For more than 150 years it has sat on a small point of land at the east shore of Mackerel Cove on Bailey Island. This fish house harkens back to the days when fishermen built and maintained their fishing gear in this type of building.

In modern times, few fishermen own property that allows for similar, direct access to the shore. Island properties such as this, that in years gone by were not developed or desirable, can no longer be afforded by most fishermen. Also, present-day laws prohibit structures such as “The Nubble” from being built so close to the shore.
